Federal Home Loan Bank Mortgage Refinancing Authority Expanded to Help Low- and Moderate-Income Households
The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) has issued an interim final rule to broaden the scope of the Affordable Housing Program (AHP) set-aside refinancing program, allowing the Federal Home Loan Banks to provide subsidies to low- and moderate-income households who qualify for refinancing assistance under the Hope for Homeowners Program established by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA). This move aims to help households benefit from the program despite ongoing adverse conditions in the mortgage market.
