DEA Proposes Changes to Iodine Regulation to Combat Methamphetamine Production

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has proposed changes to the regulation of iodine crystals and chemical mixtures containing over 2.2 percent iodine, aiming to curb the diversion of iodine for illicit methamphetamine production. The proposed rulemaking seeks to move iodine from List II to List I, reduce the iodine threshold to zero kilograms, and impose import and export controls on these substances.
