Definition of Onshore Gas Gathering Lines and Proposed Safety Standards
The US Department of Transportation (DOT) is proposing new safety standards for onshore gas gathering lines, which are pipelines that transport gas from wells to processing facilities. The proposed rule, published on September 25, 1991, aims to clarify the definition of 'gathering line' and establish risk-based safety standards for these pipelines, which currently lack adequate protection under the DOT's gas pipeline safety standards.
