EPA Proposes Agreement with Stop & Shop to Clean Up Contaminated Site in New York

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced a proposed agreement with The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company LLC, a prospective purchaser of contaminated property, to avoid potential environmental liability at the Liberty Industrial Finishing Superfund Site in New York. The agreement would require The Stop & Shop to perform cleanup work valued at $100,000 and pay EPA $12,500 in exchange for the EPA's covenant not to sue.
