FMCSA Seeks Public Comment on USPS Application for Hours-of-Service Exemption
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has announced that it is seeking public comment on an application by the United States Postal Service (USPS) for an exemption from the hours-of-service (HOS) regulations, which would allow some contract motor carriers transporting mail for USPS to operate under the old rules prior to January 4, 2004. The USPS believes this exemption would improve safety levels comparable to or exceeding those under the new HOS rules for property-carrying vehicles that took effect after January 4, 2004.
