FAA Withdraws Mode S Transponder Requirement for Some Aircraft

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has withdrawn its proposal to rescind the requirement to install a Mode S transponder on certain aircraft, reversing its earlier decision made on May 23, 1996, which would have exempted those aircraft not equipped with TCAS II from the requirement.
