U.S. Minerals Management Service Prepares Environmental Assessment for Upcoming Oil and Gas Lease Sale 197 in the Eastern Planning Area of the Gulf of Mexico

The U.S. Minerals Management Service is preparing an environmental assessment for Lease Sale 197, scheduled for March 2005, in the Eastern Planning Area of the Gulf of Mexico. The assessment will reexamine the potential environmental effects of leasing all available unleased acreage in the area and its alternative, following analysis in the Final Environmental Impact Statement for Gulf of Mexico OCS Oil and Gas Lease Sales 2003 and 2005.
