NRC Draft Staff Assessment of Proposed Agreement Between Nuclear Regulatory Commission and State of Minnesota

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is seeking public comment on a proposed agreement with the State of Minnesota, which would transfer regulatory authority over certain radioactive materials from the NRC to the state, as authorized by the Atomic Energy Act of 1954. The proposed agreement, which was requested by Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty in a letter dated July 6, 2004, aims to release individuals and organizations from NRC oversight, while ensuring public health and safety.
