FDA Removes Essential-Use Designation for Albuterol MDIs Containing Ozone-Depleting Substances

The FDA is amending its regulation to remove the essential-use designation for albuterol used in oral pressurized metered-dose inhalers (MDIs) containing ozone-depleting substances (ODSs), effective December 31, 2008, following the marketing of two non-ODS MDIs for over 3 years.
