Medicare and Medicaid Programs; Approval of Application for Deeming Authority for Ambulatory Surgical Centers by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc.

This final notice announces the approval of an application from the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc., (AAAASF) for continued recognition as a national accrediting organization for ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs) that request participation in the Medicare or Medicaid programs. Following an evaluation of the organizational and programmatic capabilities of AAAASF, we determined that AAAASF's standards for ASCs meet or exceed the Medicare conditions for coverage. Therefore, ASCs accredited by AAAASF under the CMS-approved program will be deemed to have met the conditions for coverage under the Medicare program.
