FCC Updates Broadcast Ownership Rules to Comply with Telecommunications Act of 1996
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has updated its broadcast ownership rules to align with the Telecommunications Act of 1996, which requires a biennial review of the rules to ensure they remain in the public interest. The new rules, effective immediately, replace restrictions on common ownership of media outlets in the same market.
