Intent To Prepare a Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Surf City and North Topsail Beach, NC, Shore Protection Project

The U.S. government plans to prepare a draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Surf City and North Topsail Beach, NC, Shore Protection Project, which aims to address severe erosion and damage caused by storms along the ocean shoreline of Topsail Island, NC. The project, initially proposed in 1992, was deemed economically infeasible for the northernmost part of the island, but recent heavy damages from six hurricanes between 1996 and 1999 have prompted a review of the original recommendations.
