Medicare Program; Changes to Hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment Systems and Fiscal Year 2005 Rates

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is updating the Medicare hospital inpatient prospective payment systems to reflect changes from the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003, which went into effect on December 8, 2003. These changes will apply to discharges starting October 1, 2004, and include rate-of-increase limits and policy changes for certain hospitals and units paid on a reasonable cost basis.
