DEA Reschedules Buprenorphine to Schedule III Under Controlled Substances Act

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has finalized a rule to reschedule buprenorphine from a Schedule V narcotic to a Schedule III narcotic under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), following a recommendation by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and a review by the DEA. This change will impose stricter controls and penalties on those handling buprenorphine or products containing it.
