Medicare and Medicaid Programs: Delay of Effective Date for Physician Referrals Rule
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has extended the delay of the effective date of a rule regarding physician referrals to healthcare entities with which they have financial relationships by six months, until July 7, 2003. This delay will allow CMS to reconsider the definition of 'set in advance' compensation to avoid disrupting existing contractual arrangements for physician services.
