McDonnell Douglas DC-9-14 to DC-9-41 Airplanes Modified with IS&S RVSM System Get Special Conditions for HIRF Protection
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued special conditions for seven McDonnell Douglas DC-9-14 to DC-9-41 airplanes modified by ABX Air Inc. with the Innovative Solutions and Support (IS&S) Duplex Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum (RVSM) system, which lacks adequate safety standards for protection against high-intensity radiated fields (HIRF). The special conditions aim to ensure the modified airplanes meet a level of safety equivalent to existing airworthiness standards.
