FDA Approves Neotame for Direct Addition to Food Products

The FDA is amending its regulations to allow the safe use of neotame, a nonnutritive sweetener, in food products for human consumption. Monsanto Co. filed two petitions, which were later sold to NutraSweet Co., prompting this regulatory change.
