FDA Releases Draft Guidance on Veterinary Drug Residue Testing
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released a draft guidance document titled 'Studies to Evaluate the Safety of Residues of Veterinary Drugs in Human Food: Repeat-Dose (90-Day) Toxicity Testing' (VICH GL31), developed by the International Cooperation on Harmonisation of Technical Requirements for Registration of Veterinary Medicinal Products (VICH). The FDA is seeking public comments on this document, which outlines the minimum requirements for a 90-day repeat-dose toxicity testing strategy to identify target organ toxicity and the no-observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) for veterinary drug residues in human food.
