NMFS Clarifies Interpretation of AMLRCA Regarding Import of Patagonian and Antarctic Toothfish

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has issued an interpretative rule to clarify its interpretation of the Antarctic Marine Living Resources Convention Act of 1984, which prohibits the import of Patagonian and Antarctic toothfish into the United States, even if accompanied by a validated catch documentation. This clarification aims to address recent requests for permits from U.S. importers seeking to import toothfish seized by foreign authorities and accompanied by DCDs.
