NMFS Closes Pamlico Sound Waters to Large-Mesh Gillnets to Protect Sea Turtles

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is temporarily closing the waters of Pamlico Sound, North Carolina, to fishing with large-mesh gillnets from September 28, 2001, to December 15, 2001, to safeguard migrating sea turtles, and is seeking public comments on a potential permanent rule.
