FSIS Requests Comment on Petition to Postpone Regulations on Retained Water in Raw Meat and Poultry Products
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is seeking public comment on a petition to delay the implementation of new regulations requiring labeling for retained water in raw meat and poultry products until August 1, 2004. The regulations, originally set to take effect on January 9, 2001, would limit the amount of water retained in products to meet food safety requirements, such as reducing Salmonella pathogens.
