NMFS Closes Atlantic Bluefin Tuna Fisheries for Remainder of September 2025

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has closed the General category fishery for Atlantic bluefin tuna (BFT) for the remainder of September 2025, allowing fishermen to catch and release BFT of all sizes, subject to catch-and-release and tag-and-release programs. The fishery will reopen on October 1, 2025, with previously scheduled restricted-fishing days (RFDs) resuming.
