EPA Proposes Revisions to Vehicle Inspection Maintenance Program Requirements

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed amendments to the Motor Vehicle Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) requirements, allowing states to replace traditional I/M tests on model year 1996 and newer vehicles with onboard diagnostic (OBD) system checks, starting from January 1, 2002, and potentially extending the deadline further.
