NMFS Issues Final Rule to Reduce Atlantic Swordfish Landings Quota

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued a final rule to reduce the annual landings quota for the Atlantic swordfish fishery to 2,219 metric tons, with 300 metric tons allocated for incidental catch and the remainder divided between two semi-annual seasons. The rule also establishes allowances for dead discards and imposes import restrictions on Atlantic bluefin tuna and swordfish from certain countries to improve conservation and management of the species.
