EPA Promulgates Rule for Hazardous Waste Management System at University Laboratories

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a rule providing regulatory flexibility for laboratories at the University of Massachusetts Boston, Boston College, and the University of Vermont, allowing them to adopt a comprehensive Laboratory Environmental Management Plan (EMP) to replace existing hazardous waste generator requirements under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). The rule is part of an XL project that will be implemented through a Final Project Agreement (FPA) signed on September 28, 1999.
