General Aviation Authority Issues New Airworthiness Directive for GE CF6-80E1A2 Engines
The General Aviation Authority has issued a new airworthiness directive requiring the removal of high pressure turbine disks and impeller spacers from General Electric Company CF6-80E1A2 series turbofan engines before they reach a certain lifespan, in order to prevent engine failure and damage to the aircraft. This directive is prompted by a fatigue analysis that identified a risk of cracking and failure of these engine components.
