AP600 Design Certification
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or Commission) proposes to amend its regulations to certify the AP600 standard plant design under Subpart B of 10 CFR Part 52. This action is necessary so that applicants or licensees intending to construct and operate an AP600 design may do so by referencing the AP600 design certification rule (DCR). This proposed DCR, set out as Appendix C, is nearly identical to the two previously codified DCRs in Appendices A and B of 10 CFR Part 52. The applicant for certification of the AP600 design is Westinghouse Electric Company LLC (hereinafter referred to as Westinghouse). The public is invited to submit comments on this proposed DCR and the AP600 design control document (DCD) that is incorporated by reference into the DCR. In addition, interested parties may request an informal hearing before an NRC Atomic Safety and Licensing Board, in accordance with 10 CFR 52.51(b), on matters pertaining to this proposed DCR. The NRC also invites the public to submit comments on the environmental assessment for the AP600 design.
