NRC to Hold Public Meetings on Spent Fuel Shipping Cask Accident Studies
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is conducting a study on the safety of spent nuclear fuel cask designs in the event of severe transportation accidents, building on a 1987 study that found designs could withstand most accidents without releasing radioactive material. The agency will hold public meetings to gather input and concerns from the public and stakeholders.
