Airworthiness Directives; McDonnell Douglas Model DC-9-80 Series Airplanes and Model MD-88 Airplanes

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) proposes to replace an existing airworthiness directive (AD) for certain McDonnell Douglas Model DC-9-80 series and Model MD-88 airplanes, which requires inspections to detect fatigue cracking of the main landing gear shock strut cylinder and replacement of cracked parts. The new directive aims to prevent collapse of the main landing gear due to shock strut cylinder fracturing.
