Medicare Program; Revisions to Payment Policies and Adjustments to the Relative Value Units Under the Physician Fee Schedule for Calendar Year 1999

The Medicare program is making changes to payment policies and adjusting the Relative Value Units (RVUs) for physicians' services, including rebasing the Medicare Economic Index and implementing a resource-based system for determining practice expense RVUs. These changes are part of the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 and will take effect on January 1, 1999.
