EPA Finalizes Drinking Water Regulations for Disinfectants and Disinfection Byproducts
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has finalized maximum residual disinfectant level goals (MRDLGs) and maximum contaminant level goals (MCLGs) for various disinfectants and disinfection byproducts in drinking water, including chlorine, chloramines, and chlorine dioxide, as well as trihalomethanes, haloacetic acids, bromate, and chlorite. The new regulations, which include monitoring, reporting, and public notification requirements, are based on the best available technologies (BATs) and aim to protect public health.
