Airworthiness Directives; Pratt & Whitney JT9D Series Turbofan Engines
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a new airworthiness directive (AD) requiring Pratt & Whitney JT9D series turbofan engines to undergo initial and repetitive eddy current inspections of 14th and 15th stage high pressure compressor (HPC) disks for cracks, and to replace any cracked disks with serviceable parts. This measure aims to prevent engine failure and damage to aircraft resulting from disk rupture.
