FAA Adopts New Airworthiness Directive for CFM56-7B Engines to Prevent Engine Shutdowns

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has adopted a new airworthiness directive (AD) for CFM International, S.A. (CFMI) CFM56-7B series turbofan engines, which requires the installation of improved electronic engine control (EEC) software to prevent uncommanded engine acceleration events and inflight engine shutdowns. The new directive supersedes an existing requirement for inspections of EEC fault messages and the replacement of faulty fuel metering valves.
