WTO Dispute Settlement Proceeding Regarding CanadaPatent Term

The Office of the United States Trade Representative (``USRT'') is providing notice of the request for the establishment of a dispute settlement panel under the Marrakesh Agreement Establishing the World Trade Organization (``WTO''), by the United States, to examine the Canadian Patent Act. In this dispute, the United States alleges that the patent term granted by the Canadian patent Act is inconsistent with obligations of Canada under the Agreement on Trade- Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (``TRIPS Agreement''). The USTR invites written comments from the public concerning the issues raised in this dispute.
