NHTSA Denies Petition to Extend Exclusion for Vehicles Manufactured for Individuals with Disabilities
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has denied a petition by the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA) to extend the exclusion of light trucks and vans from dynamic test requirements for manual seat belts and automatic restraints, which was previously expired. The exclusion, established for businesses that manufacture or modify vehicles for individuals with disabilities, would have required certification of crash protection requirements if it were not extended.
