FDA Amends Food Additive Regulations for Tomato Peeling Process
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is updating its regulations to allow the safe use of sodium mono- and dimethyl naphthalene sulfonates in the steam/scald vacuum peeling of tomatoes without a subsequent water wash. This change was prompted by a petition from Enviro Tech Chemical Services, Inc. and is set to take effect on February 12, 1998, with written objections due by March 16, 1998.
