Equal Credit Opportunity

Pursuant to its Regulatory Planning and Review Program, the Federal Reserve Board (the ``Board'') is undertaking a review of Regulation B, which carries out the provisions of the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (the ``ECOA''). The ECOA makes it unlawful for creditors to discriminate against an applicant in any aspect of a credit transaction on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, age, and other specified bases. The review will determine whether Regulation B should be revised to address technological and other developments; identify areas in the regulation that could be revised to better balance consumer protections and industry burden; and delete obsolete provisions. To gather information necessary for this review and to ensure the participation of interested parties, the Board is soliciting comment on several specific issues, while also soliciting comment generally on potential revisions to the regulation.
