Student Assistance General Provisions

The Secretary proposes to amend the Student Assistance General Provisions regulations, 34 CFR Part 668, to implement an amendment made to the General Education Provisions Act (GEPA) by the Improving America's Schools Act of 1994 (IASA). That amendment decreased from five years to three years the length of time that a recipient of Federal funds is required to maintain records. In addition, the Secretary is proposing to consolidate and clarify existing records retention rules, and reduce administrative burden on institutions.
