NMFS Closes Pacific Cod Fishing in Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has closed directed fishing for Pacific cod by vessels using hook-and-line gear in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area due to the depletion of the 1996 Pacific halibut bycatch mortality allowance, which was allocated to the Pacific cod hook-and-line fishery in the area.
