EPA Revises Carbon Monoxide Emission Standard for Class I and II Nonhandheld Spark-Ignition Engines

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has revised the carbon monoxide emission standard for new nonroad spark-ignition engines at or below 19 kilowatts, increasing the standard from 469 grams per kilowatt-hour to 519 g/kW-hr, to better reflect the emission difference between oxygenated and nonoxygenated fuels. The revised standard will enable manufacturers to certify their engines for the 1997 model year and allow the use of open crankcases in snowthrowers.
