U.S. Agencies Propose 10% Risk Weight for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Claims

The U.S. Department of the Treasury has entered into senior preferred stock purchase agreements with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, providing protection to senior debt and mortgage-backed securities holders. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and other agencies propose a 10% risk weight for claims on Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, as long as the agreements remain in effect.
