Implementation of Local Competition Provisions in the Telecommunications Act of 1996
The US Congress enacted the Telecommunications Act of 1996 to establish a pro-competitive framework for the telecommunications industry, aiming to end monopolies in local markets. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is proposing new rules to implement the local competition provisions, which will help define rights and responsibilities among carriers, state commissions, and courts regarding interconnection, unbundling, and resale.
