FDA Approves Aspartame as General-Purpose Sweetener

The FDA is amending its food additive regulations to permit the direct addition of aspartame to food for human consumption, following a petition from NutraSweet Co. and simplifying the existing regulation by consolidating 23 previously listed uses into a single category.
