Importation of Hedgehogs and Tenrecs

We are proposing to amend the animal importation regulations to prohibit the importation of hedgehogs or tenrecs into the United States from countries affected by foot-and-mouth disease. Additionally, we are proposing to impose certain restrictions on the importation of hedgehogs or tenrecs into the United States from countries declared free of foot-and-mouth disease. We believe these actions are necessary to prevent the introduction of foot-and-mouth disease and other communicable animal diseases into the United States.
