Nuclear Regulatory Commission Amends Procedures for Spent Fuel Storage Licenses

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is allowing the Director of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards to issue licenses for the interim storage of spent fuel in independent spent fuel storage installations at reactor sites, eliminating the need for Commission authorization, following safety and environmental reviews and public hearings.
