NRC Amends Regulations for ISFSI and MRS Facilities

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is updating its regulations to require local authorities to be notified in the event of an accident at Independent Spent Fuel Storage Facilities (ISFSI) and Monitored Retrievable Storage Facilities (MRS), ensuring a level of preparedness consistent with the NRC's defense-in-depth philosophy.
