Duration of Existing Competition and Consumer Protection Orders

The Commission proposes a rule (``Sunset Rule'') that would terminate existing administrative orders where certain conditions have been met, consistent with Commission policy announced elsewhere in today's Federal Register. Curently, the Commission may set aside the provisions of such orders upon petition of the respondent, or pursuant to show cause proceedings initiated sua sponte by the Commission. The proposed rule will reduce the administrative expense and burden associated with those procedures by automatically vacating certain order provisions that no longer serve the public interest.
