Nuclear Power Plant License Renewal; Proposed Revisions

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is proposing to amend its regulations to change the requirements that an applicant for renewal of a nuclear power plant operating license must meet, clarify the required information that must be submitted to the NRC for review so that the agency can determine whether those requirements have in fact been met, and change the administrative requirements that a holder of a renewed license must meet. The proposed amendments are intended to provide a more stable and predictable regulatory process for license renewal. This proposed rule would inform nuclear power plant licensees and interested members of the public of the proposed changes to the regulatory requirements for extending nuclear power plant operating licenses beyond 40 years.
