NRC Proposes New Position on Using NUMARC/EPRI Report for Digital Upgrades

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is proposing a new regulatory position on using a report from the Nuclear Management and Resources Council/Electrical Power Research Institute (NUMARC/EPRI) to determine the acceptability of performing analog-to-digital replacements without prior NRC approval. The report, dated December 1993, provides guidance on when such replacements can be performed under the requirements of 10 CFR 50.59.
