DOE to Prepare Environmental Impact Statement for Hanford Plutonium Finishing Plant Deactivation

The US Department of Energy (DOE) plans to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to clean out and deactivate the Hanford, Washington Plutonium Finishing Plant (PFP) Complex, except for storage areas, and to stabilize and store plutonium-bearing materials, with the goal of minimizing safety concerns and reducing radiation exposure to site workers and the public.
